Wooden Board Game GO.

A strategy game from Japan for 2 players, with instructions in Greek and English. Go is a combat game for 2 people in which inspiration, ease in making combinations, tactics and planning skills play a key role. Advantages of the game are the constant change from attack to defense, the impossibility of playing to a draw and the possibility of a balance of power between the players by giving the weaker player some extra checkers.

With 376 wooden handmade checkers and wooden case. Size 16cm. X 32cm. and height 5 cm.

History:

Go is believed to be one of the oldest games in the world (2,000-3,000 BC). It originated in China, where it was first mentioned by Mencius in 450 BC, a student of Confucius. There is no information about who invented it, except for assumptions such as that a Chinese emperor created it to teach his son strategic thinking. Others think that the game is an attempt to transfer to the board how the stars are arranged in the galaxy, where one of the 361 intersection points is the center of the sky and the remaining 360 symbolize the days of the year.

The first written descriptions of Go appear from 618 – 900 AD. During this time, the game reached Japan (700 AD) via Korea, probably by Buddhist monks. In the following centuries, Go was held in high esteem in Japan, the imperial family embraced it and encouraged its spread among aristocrats, monks and samurai. Go became an art form (like music in Europe) and anyone who did not know how to play was considered to have an incomplete education. Shogun Tokugawa in 1603 established a ministry for Go and 4 schools, the ministry was abolished in 1869, but in 1879 the first organization for Go was founded. In the 20th century its popularity increased, and in 1980 its members reached 10,000,000 in Japan and its champions are stars for the Japanese.
