It all started 222 years ago, when the Swiss mathematician Leonard Euler, at the age of 76, created the "magic squares" (carres magiques).
The same year that the first version of today's Sudoku game was born, the Swiss mathematician dies and the game remains in obscurity for about two centuries.
In 1979, Dell publishes Euler's creation to American readers and lovers of crosswords and logic games.
Although "Number Puzzle" as it was originally named, failed to win over the American public, it received a great response in faraway Japan when it was first released by Nikoli Publishing.
There the game got its current name Sudoku (Suji wa dokushin ni kagiru) which translates to: "Numbers must come out only once".

The term Su Do ku translates to something like "numbering" and is essentially a puzzle of pure logic.The beauty of Su Doku is twofold and it is that you do not need to know a particular language or have any particular knowledge to solve it.There is always a single solution, which comes with logic and exclusion, with no need for speculation.
